Mats,

I've been using shp2mysql by Barend Kobben which seems to do a decent job. My only issue is that occasionally a very complex polygon ends up being larger than the MySQL geometry column can store and will get truncated in the database, but that's a MySQL limitation (which I hope can be worked around) and not a problem with shp2mysql. See my earlier post on that.

The program can be downloaded from the Web GIS Plan Autumn 2005 website as well as other GIS hangouts across the web.
