Yeah. Opterons or Xeons with EM64T is a way to go now.
I just would mention a lot depends on the database size and memory as well.
Ie if you have more than 4G of RAM on dedicated MySQL Server do not use 32bit CPU even if CPU speed is not a problem,as you will not be able to use memory efficient enough
