SHOW CREATE TABLE tbl\G -- engine, indexes
SHOW TABLE STATUS LIKE 'tbl'\G -- sizes
EXPLAIN SELECT ...\G -- clues of inefficiencies
SHOW VARIABLES LIKE '%buffer%'; -- cache size
