Getting slower is harder to explain than getting faster.

How much ram do you have?

Are your tables only MyISAM?
If so, then you are wasting 4GB of RAM for innodb_buffer_pool_size; set it to 0.

4G is awfully big for key_buffer_size, unless you have 16GB or more of RAM.
