Given that
* The whole delete takes only a few seconds.
* The mode (Read Committed, etc) does not matter to the delete.
* SBR would send a hundred bytes across to the slave (instead of a zillion bytes for RBR)
Why not arrange for the delete to be done with SBR?

Breaking up the delete, etc, was assuming that the delete was too big to avoid interference with other stuff.
