Thanks for the reply.

I do capture the location in the binlogs in each night's master dump. I do the CHANGE MASTER before I start the slave again but I still get the following:

'Could not find first log file name in binary log index file', Error_code: 1236

If I understand what you're saying though, it's looking at the "...relay-bin.index" file on the slave server. The first file name in that index file is "...relay-bin.000001" and I can see that file in the directory.

Any idea why it errors saying it can't see the first binlog file when I can see it?
