* Don't write to both of Master-Master. Send writes and 'critical reads' to the writable master; reads to the other.

* Simply use expire_logs_days -- but monitor. If one machine is down longer than expire_logs_days, the recovery is a lot more work.

* Backup: Stop the readonly master and dump the disk. Switch Reads to the writable master while it is down. Alternatively, use XtraBackup on the readonly master, but leave it alive.
