https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/backup-and-recovery.html, physical backup of the sort you suggest requires a
completely error-free mysql server shutdown before you do it, and as James suggests, there's just one way to prove that it has worked: do it, then restore to a different instance of the same version and prove there are no errors. All that may take long than a logical backup.
