Of course, the best option would be to get better storage.

However, I know that's not necessarily the easiest thing to achieve, especially when it's hosted. If you have the memory capacity, you can try to cache as much data as possible to avoid the disk i/o. But if you need disk i/o, you will hit the disk no matter what.
