Problem dumping norwegian characters

We just switched to mySQL database for a medium sized project, and things are looking rather nice.

But we got a problem when using mysqldump to do backup of the database, all norwegian characters (øæå) won't show, they are either ignored in full or replaced with a set of weird characters.

the characters are shown perfectly in the database, just not when dumping them.

Beeing rather new to the mySQL bit Im wondering if im forgetting a paramater when dumping or if im using the wrong character set, I just selected the standard character set when installing mysql, and im using mysql query browser to create the tables.

Please let me know if there is any other information I should add here.
