I think the MySQL bug team needs to discourage use of their service as a support resource, so I'm not surprised that info from them became cryptic once they determined the errors were yours rather than mysql's.
The Community Edition release model depends heavily on voluntary user community support, but for many reasons there aren't huge numbers of Mac OS MySQL users, fewer with time or resources enough to try to replicate your problem. My own Mac OS VM is currently down, so I can't get to first base with your issue.
So it appears your problem falls through the cracks of this system. That suggests to me that your best options now would be to buy a one-seat Enterprise edition or hire a MySQL consultant with mac OS experience.
