Forgot to add that 5.1 is a pretty old version and many things might not be supported (new authentication mechanisms in the newer versions of MySQL server, some server-side prepared statements, bookmarks). If you stumble against a bug in 5.1 it will not be fixed either.

Still, it is better than nothing.
