That PDF is the most concise presented info I have seen so far. MySQL Proxy seems to get very involved with the data to the point of processing it. What I had in mind was just forwarding data without unpacking any of it.
Before I try it I need to find out first if it changes the IP addresses to itself depending on direction, otherwise what I'm trying to do won't work. This thing whatever is called needs to emulate a MySQL client (but using its own IP address as source IP) when talking to the MySQL server,and when talking to the MySQL client emulate the MySQL server (using its own IP address as source). Or in other words it acts like a two-faced puppet with undetectable strings.
