Shared memory connections do work, however there is a small problem in 1.0.3 that is causing the problem. Version 1.0.3 does not set the default memory object name. This will be corrected in 1.0.4

Just add "shared memory name=MYSQL" to your connect string. Be aware though reviving dead connections from within the connection pool does not currentl work due to a problem in the server.
