Same problem, but I got Microsoft Visual C# 2005 express edition installed.

I tried a core components only installation but it failed also.
O/S : XP Pro SP2 french version.
VS : sp1, french version.

I am admin of the machine.

Do you want me to send the entire installation log file ? (254K)

I tried with or without 5.0.6 version installed

I have the ODBC connector (3.51) installed on this machine, but no other mysql components.
