I "believe" beta 2 is available.
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/1.0.html
I believe the new version (Beta 2) is, and is currently available:
mysql-connector-net-1.0.1-beta
Older version was named:
mysql-connector-net-1.0.0-beta
So you might check the filename to see if your using the latest version.
Dont know if the newer version fixes your problem I was only trying to answer the first part of your question.
