For people who are writing portable code, I think you would need to stick with DateTime. The new release (1.0.3) can do both. By default, it returns DateTime objects. If you *HAVE* to have zero datetime capaibilty, set "allow zero datetime" on the connection string and it will return MySqlDateTime.
