Your help is much appreciated; however, I have decided that getting this running on Mac OS right now is just too flakey. My unix experience comes from managing some RS6000 workstations in the early 90's - so I'm pretty comfortable with getting packages compiled and installed. This latest experience on the Mac has been really frustrating.
My solution was simple - I purchased a Virtual Fedora 7 Linux hosting environment on GoDaddy for only about $30. Everything I wanted was installed, working and ready to go. If I had done that in the first place, I would be finished this little project right now!
