Hi John,

The MySQL Certification Study Guide is actually an excellent book and covers pretty much all the topics that you mention. It assumes that you know what a database and table are and concentrates on the MySQL implementations. For more advanced stuff there is 'High Performance MySQL ' which includes details of lots of utilities - especially for optimisation etc. Another good book is the MySQL Cookbook. All three are permanently on my desk.

I don't have the ISBN details to hand but will post them when I get into the office.

The on-line reference is good to, if you are looking for a particular topic, try:

www.mysql.com/mytopic

e.g: www.mysql.com/explain

it usually does a pretty good job of finding the relevant documentation

Cheers,

Nick
