Thank you. I will have to take a closer look at this one. At first glance, in some cases it would work, if I am populating the entire record or don't care about any other data, but one downside is that I would lose any other data in the record if I am only inserting a few of the fields.

Had forgotten about this function or maybe I had dismissed it for the reasons above. I am guessing there aren't any other options apart from doing the insert and then retrieving all the data in an additional select and then doing an update...a bit unwieldy but life is like that sometimes :-)
