Senior MySQL DBA opportunity - telecommuting ok

Job Description
The DreamHost Sr. Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

Responsibilities
Develop long-term strategic goals for production databases for both internal use and external use.
Work with development and engineering staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Ensure database systems perform reliably.
Lead the design of all aspects of data architecture, including data models, data flows, aggregations, clustering, replication, and backup and recovery strategies.
Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
Manage MySQL on Linux in Production/QA/Development environments utilizing open source technologies.
Support system administrators and developers to ensure optimal system design.

Required Skills
Debian specific Linux system administration (including package creation/maintenance).
Linux virtualization technology (KVM, VServer).
Expert level proficiency in SQL.
Strong skills in data profiling, query analysis and optimization.
Ability to write scripts to support database administration activities.
Strong understanding of system administration fundamentals in a Linux environment.
Ability to prioritize and multitask.
Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.

Required Experience
Linux kernel tuning/patching/configuration experience.
Performance tuning and benchmarking experience.
Extensive MySQL experience, including various storage engines.
Some experience with configuration management systems, specific experience with Chef is a plus.
Some experience with PostgreSQL and NoSQL.
Significant experience in database performance tuning, backup recovery, system architecture and design with SQL.
Extensive Perl, Python Ruby and/or Bash scripting experience.
Experience working with large data sets.
Experience with data sharding/partitioning.
Experience with MySQL stored procedures, functions and triggers.
At least 4 years of experience in similar position.
