mysql tools for creating stored procedures are antiquated

When are the mysql folks going to update the way we work with stored procedures on mysql? It is the worst I've ever encountered, I pull up and modify a working stored procedure and if I make even the smallest of syntax errors the stored procedure bombs out and is expelled from mysql and I need to start all over. I've began using notepad to save the old version in just so it won't go away. Does this seem like something you might want to fix in phpmyadmin? All these years using the same phpmyadmin interface? no great updates that will allow a more kinder gentler interface? still feel like I'm working with bones and bearskin rugs. I guess there are no developers working on a new version of phpmyadmin or mysql?
