My point was that there's no simple way to back up triggers prior to 5.0.9/5.0.10 other than copying all the files in DATADIR (which is likely to cause problems with upgrades between 5.0.x versions for other reasons), which is why the trigger implementation was substantially changed. The bits necessary to support such things just weren't in place yet.
Please remember that MySQL 5.0 is still in testing phase (hence the "alpha" and "beta" designations for the releases), and is not warranted to have all features you'd expect or require for a production environment - that's true *especially* for the earliest versions.
