I just answered one of your messages with a solution for your first problem.
About the second one, you can check if there is any useful error message on the MySQL for Excel log found at %APPDATA%\Oracle\MySQL for Excel.
I notice that the workaround you shared involves running in XP Compatibility mode which should not be required. I am interested in knowing if you found a bug.
