I use the MySQL Query Browser for entering commands - much more user friendly than the Command line in DOS.
The documentation on this website (see Documentation near the top of this page) is thorough and has some examples. And you can find plenty on the net by searching - e.g. 'mysql create table example' or 'mysql load data infile'.
