To maintain both mssql and mysql, plus the link between them, seems like a lot of work. And I don't see a need for such.
35000 rows is rather small. That could be loaded into a MySQL table in a minute. You could experiment to see how things feel if you convert. And if the testing fails, it won't take much effort or time to do it again.
