Addendum.
The outcome decision boils down to two considerations.
1. Data safety/integrity
2. TTM (Time to market)
If there are no safety/integrity concerns of keeping the MYD, MYI files and generating the SPI files then the time it would save us from migrating billions of time stamped records would be a boon.
However if there are data integrity concerns then the above choice is not really an option.
