Well. I have decided to wait until 5.6.6 < features come to general availability. As the need which I came initially is to get timestamp datatype in a database default value as CURRENT_TIMESTAMP which is available on 5.6.6 also partitioning pruning on locks commences on this version M9, but its not gona be a much pain for partition sizes as I'm going to retain latest 6months records on the actual partitioned table by month wise. And rotate the table everymonth keeping latest six partitions on the table and rest moving out to another split by table_dd_mm_yyyy wise. Until then let me ask application team to go for stress test with DB on this version to find any bottlenecks or backward compatibility issues.
