recompile mySQL

Hi,
I'm new to mySQL and fulltext.
I find the Reference Manual pages a little more high-level than I would expect.
For example, if I change true_word_char() in myisam/ftdefs.h, I need to recompile mySQL. What does it mean to recompile, and how to do it?
