What version are you running? Whenever you have a problem, it's always a good idea to mention :-)

In your install directory, you should be getting s subdirectory 'share' with further language specific subdirectories containing a file errmsg.sys. Do you have those?

The error message you got [ERROR] Can't find messagefile '/usr/share/mysql/errmsg.sys' means the server couldn't find the proper file and starts looking in default locations instead.

I think it's your $LANG which defines which directory to look for errmsg.sys in. You *could* try mv'ing one of the share/<lang>/errmsg.sys up one level to share/errmsg.sys
