connect() method crashes 1.0.4-beta

I noticed the connect() method when linking to MySQL C++ Connector 1.0.4 is causing some kind of memory access violation exception. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a work-around?

I even followed the MySQL "Hello World" example posted on the following blog: http://blog.ulf-wendel.de/?p=215, but even that example still creates the crash when the connect() method is executed. It appears something in this method is causing a heap corruption... ??? the 1.0.3-alpha version works fine for me, so far... :-)
