I guess that is because static mfc uses static crt, and c/c++ use dynamic (/MT vs /MD). You are probably getting linking error that some symbol are already defined in msvcr80 or smth like that. You can try to use /NODEFAULTLIB:<nameofthelib>

but maybe it's better to build c/c++ driver from source using /MT compiler flag
