Re: MySQL 5.6 update doubled IOs
The explain for the 5.6 version of the query says that it will be "Using MRR". This might not be good for "LIMIT 1" query. Can you try to run the query when support for MRR is disabled, eg. by adding:
set optimizer_switch='mrr=off';
to see if this has any impact on the performance.
