The plan is to eventually move to 5.7 but with us being on 5.1 in the first instance it was too much of a risk to move to 5.7 straight away so we went to 5.5 first.

We are seeing a loss in performance since the upgrade though. Most of the configs have stayed the same other than key_buffer_size has been increased to 10% of available RAM and we have increase max_heap_table_size to 512M and tmp_table_size to 512M.

I'd have thought with a better machine you shouldn't see a decrease in performance even with the same configs or am I wrong here?
