Why do you think this is a checkpoint problem? Our database does not start faster either, but I think this this time goes to read data from disk and load into memory + synchronize with other nodes. Although I can't say it is painless waiting. But as far as I know, cluster solution is not designed to start-stop. It is designed to run all the time. So what that if some node crashes, you start it and it will probably come up within 20 minutes..
