That pretty strongly suggests a need to upgrade to a more recent MySQL build.
A new 4.0 build is likely to arrive in a week or so, because of a security issue. I can't recommend that anyone continnues to use a version with a known security problem, however reluctant you are to switch from an SLES packaged build. However, I don't see an SLES PowerPC build in MySQL's build plan for this release; just assorted PowerPC generics and Mac.
You might consider asking the build manager to update the package to include MySQL 4.0.27 once it has been released. Barring another security issue it's likely to be the last 4.0 build for some time.
