If you have millions of rows, and you need to purge it after 90 days, then I recommend...

* PARTITION by week. That would be about 14 partitions.

* Have a weekly script that
1. Copies data your 'backup', then
2. ALTER ... DROP PARTITION -- to remove a week's worth of data very efficiently.

Various techniques can be used for "copying" the data. mysqldump. INSERT...SELECT. etc.
