compatibility issues of server and tools

It is recommended you upgrade your local MySQL client programs, including mysqldump, to a version equal to or newer than that of the target server otherwise some features might not be backed up properly.

can anyone verify this ?
and also does this hold for backup too.

so if i am having the latest version of mysql client program , i can successfully backup up and restore data from target server.
