Has something changed that would affect connect performance ?

We just recently upgraded from connector-3.0.15-ga to connector-3.0.16-ga *AND* upgrade to mysql-4.1.7 from mysq-4.0.X.

Initial connection to the server seems to be *MUCH* slower - over a WAN it's gone from 5 seconds to 20+ seconds.

Any ideas ?
