Did you set up the instance of 4.1 as a development machine?
If you did, maybe it is not going to work very fast.
I noticed it happened to me but since I set up mine as a development machine, it is not optimized as a server. I would like to know about this as well. But I dont see why MySQL would do anything like this knowing there is a huge amount of code already out there.
