After much trial and error, I realized that simply refreshing the link to a table only works as long as you aren't changing any indexes. Particularly if you don't have a Primary Key setup and Access asks you which fields are the unique identifier.

In general a good rule of thumb would be to remove and relink tables if you are changing any indexed fields or fields that are used by Access as a unique identifier.
