I also use MySQL 4.1 but unfortenately I use swedish characters and have serious problems with it. As far as I knew was that MySQL shipped with the default setting of the character encoding being latin1. Checking out my.ini in the MySQL installation folder says it is so. However, swedish characters are not translated when extracted from the db. Is that not the whole point in using useUnicode=true etc?
Could the problem be in jdbc?
