select now(); doesn't change

hi,

we have a mysql replication (master-master) set up on two VMs (VMware server).
after some days suddenly select now(); doesn't change any more, as if time would stand still. local time using date / time on the console changes as usual.
mysql is 5.1.40, OS is Solaris 10/5.

i was not able to find anything similar in the forum, if i missed it please point me to the post.
