Alexander,

which platform are you on btw? With a default installation and an actually running server you should be able to connect to localhost using root with no password (on Mac + Linux) or the password you specified during installation (on Windows). Of course there must be no other server running.

The fact that you can connect from other apps but not WB to localhost is a mystery to me. When you use exactly the same connection parameters as on the CLI (and it works there) then you should be able to connect, period.
