When I up it via excel after changing the column format to yyyymmdd (tried yyyy-mm-dd too) and then setting it to Date before upping it the column shows up as 0000-00-00.

What are you talking about here? The column format in Excel?

So I tried uping it via the default settings, char, and the date shows up as 1/1/2001.

"Uping" means what!?

So then when I change the column to date in sql it turns the column to 0000-00-00.

Again, does this refer to Excel?
