Network Jam's on running load data from master

I am using mysql version 4.1.7-4 on RHEL 4.
My mysql database size is around 45GB, i have a bi-directional replication setup, when i execute
"load data from master" on slave it jams my network (both systems on lan).
Is there any way i can synchronise only one or two databases from master rather than having to
execute the above command.
