Hi Justin -

I've seen a something that addresses your query. Instead of a MERGE table, you'll create a VIEW which uses a select ... union ... union ... to include all the tables that you want included in the merge. The federated tables can be included in the view's union.

Sorry I don't have the exact page, but search for "Data Archiving Techniques" which shows a page that talks about combining archive tables in a view (ie how we would use merge in MySQL 4).
