Dick,
Does the version of MySQL for Excel grayed out appear as x86 or x64?
Remember you can also try installing with the stand-alone MSI found at:
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/excel/

If you use the stand-alone MSI you will need to uninstall any previous MySQL for Excel version and then use the MSI to install the latest one.
