A further detail. This database is on a stand-alone PC. There is no separate server so at least we can hopefully cut out that variable.
I can easily import, delete and reimport the data using MYSQL and a clean database and without connecting BASE to the database so I can strip out quite a few variables but between databases having their character sets with different collates and tables having their charactersets and servers having theirs, there seem to be an enormous number of possibilities.
And before anyone writes in, I do NOT want to buy a program that does it for me. I want to get to the bottom of this even if it can't be solved.
