I should've started with that question---I assumed wrongly as it turns out that you had specified --extended-insert. It speeds up execution of the dump file enormously. Use it.

5.5 is long past end-of-life, I'm no longer running an instance of it. I regularly run 20-100MB dumps against 5.7 and 8.0 installations---8.0 is slightly slower as I'd expect (it does more), but not by much. Always with --extended-insert and I've no plan to do without that.
